Beach Day 2026: The Best Way to End the First Week

Updated: 1 day ago

If you want to know about the intentionality behind PAA's culture and community building, Beach Day pretty much shows it.

Student Association officers and sponsors planned an incredible day of community, connection, and fun for the entire student body at Blue Lake, and it delivered on every level.

The day kicked off with a handshake line, where every single student met every single other student. It sounds simple, but it is anything but. That moment is a foundation, a deliberate, personal start to the kind of community that develops and deepens across the entire school year.

From there, grade levels competed against one another in a variety of games and contests, earning class points that will carry forward through Student Association events and Spirit Weeks all year long. The competition was real and the energy was high.

But it was not all structured competition. Built into the day was plenty of free time for students to choose their own adventure, whether that was badminton, volleyball, Spikeball, or just finding a spot to sit and talk with someone new or someone they have missed all summer. The weather was gorgeous, lunch was delicious, and hydration was plentiful.

A highlight of the day for everyone was the class cheer competition. Each class came together to create and perform an original cheer, with every single member participating. The creativity, collaboration, and collective energy in those moments were wonderful to watch. Every class brought something unique, and every class brought their whole selves to it. That is exactly the kind of thing that turns a group of individuals into a community.

And then there was the greased watermelon toss. As messy and chaotic and impossible as it sounds, and twice as entertaining to watch. The crowd loved every slippery second of it.

As the afternoon wound down, tired and happy students loaded back onto the buses and headed home for the weekend, carrying with them new friendships, new memories, and a little extra sunscreen residue.

Fun. Friends old and new. Moving, playing, talking, connecting. Building community.

That is Beach Day. That is PAA.
