This past Tuesday, our chapel space became a place of listening, learning, and gratitude as a panel of Black students shared their voices in honor of Black History Month. This gathering marked the first of three chapels where Black history will be intentionally remembered and celebrated in our community.
Rather than a lecture, the chapel felt like a conversation, one marked by honesty, courage, and deep personal reflection. Students on the panel spoke about why Black History Month still matters today. They shared stories shaped by family, faith, and lived experience. Moments of pride, moments of struggle, and moments where they felt seen and supported. Their words invited the room to slow down and truly listen, reminding us that history is not distant, but something that continues to shape our lives and relationships.
Throughout the panel, a common thread emerged: gratitude for a God who creates each person with intention and dignity. The students pointed us toward a faith that celebrates diversity, calls us to empathy, and invites us to love one another well. Their reflections uplifted not only the stories of the past, but the hope of who we are becoming as a community.
It was a chapel that challenged us, encouraged us, and reminded us of the beauty of listening to one another, an important step in honoring history and living out our faith today.
